Structure and components
- Replacing the managed GraphQL layer need not require moving the Atlas database: Neurelo’s migration guide connects to the existing Atlas MongoDB data source, while Hasura documents a connector that exposes MongoDB queries through its GraphQL project. (high confidence) (verified as of 2026-10-23) [source]
How it works
- MongoDB's App Services EOL notice explicitly says database triggers remain available. Its list of retired services therefore should not be read as a claim that every MongoDB Atlas capability disappeared. (low confidence) (verified as of 2026-10-23) [source]
- The App Services Admin API notice says GraphQL and other listed App Services features reached end-of-life on September 30, 2025. Database triggers remain available according to the same notice. (low confidence) (verified as of 2026-10-23) [source]
Problems, failure modes and limitations
- The presence of an old GraphQL endpoint reference or demo is insufficient evidence of service availability: MongoDB still exposes a 'Run a query or mutation' reference, its Angular Realm GraphQL demo is deprecated and archived, and the tutorial author explicitly warns that the hosted service has shut down. (high confidence) (verified as of 2026-10-23) [source]
- A March 18, 2024 Reddit post describes its author's use of Atlas GraphQL and asks for a similar service after the author says Atlas deprecated it. This is firsthand migration-demand evidence, not independent confirmation of the eventual shutdown date. (low confidence) [source]
Comparisons and alternatives
- Historical guidance set March 12, 2025 as the Atlas GraphQL support cutoff: Neurelo's migration guide names that date, and a March 12, 2024 republication of MongoDB's announcement specifies a one-year deprecation window. These establish announced plans rather than a directly observed shutdown timestamp. (medium confidence) [source]
Facts and statements
- MongoDB's current App Services notice lists GraphQL as having reached end of life; the original GraphQL tutorial author also marks the hosted service shut down and the tutorial unusable with current MongoDB services. (high confidence) (verified as of 2026-10-23) [source]
- Neurelo's migration guide documents retaining the existing Atlas database, connecting it as a data source, introspecting its schema, and serving generated GraphQL APIs from Neurelo. It requires testing the replacement endpoints before deleting the App Services app; it does not demonstrate automatic preservation of the old API contract. (low confidence) (verified as of 2026-10-23) [source]
- MongoDB’s content-library entry dates the original Atlas GraphQL and Hosting deprecation announcement to March 12, 2024. (low confidence) [source]
- The retained App Services reference documents POST /groups/{groupId}/apps/{appId}/graphql for running queries or mutations as a system user that bypasses authentication and data access rules. Its presence alongside the EOL notice is documentation evidence, not proof that the retired service still accepts requests. (high confidence) (verified as of 2026-10-23) [source]
- Hasura’s MongoDB connector page, last updated March 14, 2026, says its connector does not support mutations, column relationship arguments in queries, functions, or procedures. A migration requiring these capabilities needs a separate compatibility assessment. (low confidence) (verified as of 2026-03-14) [source]
- Neurelo’s migration guide requires connecting the MongoDB data source, introspecting the schema, creating an environment, starting runners, and issuing an API key before using the replacement GraphQL APIs. It advises confirming the migrated endpoints work before deleting the App Services app. (low confidence) (verified as of 2026-10-23) [source]
